Spectra

Every channel's power spectrum from the clean segments of this recording. Flatten it to see what is genuine oscillation rather than 1/f background.

Across the session

Posterior alpha center frequency in two-minute windows, five-window rolling median. The dashed line is this recording's own median.
Band
Band power per channel in two-minute windows, log scale. Posterior channels in warm colors, frontal in cool, temporal gray. This is the raw motion behind every summary number above.
Distribution of those window-level alpha frequencies. A narrow distribution means a stable peak frequency; a broad one means the rhythm wandered.

Spatial phase structure

A linear phase gradient fitted to the alpha phase across all fourteen electrodes in every clean 60-second window: its gradient vector k (direction and steepness), how well a single gradient explains the phase field (R²), and whether the field is closer to a fixed 0/π pattern or to a directional one. Switch bands to see that the structure belongs to alpha.

What these numbers are. These are scalp-level phase-gradient metrics. With this montage they cannot determine a wavelength or distinguish true propagation from lagged spatial structure — the identifiability result of §12; see also §13.

Band
Phase-gradient magnitude |k| (radians per head-radius, solid) and plane-fit R² (dashed, right axis) across the session. Dots are colored by the direction the phase gradient points that minute. Gray bands are the archive medians for psychedelic and non-psychedelic recordings (alpha only).
Phase-gradient portrait: every window's phase-gradient vector (kx, ky), colored from early (blue) to late (orange). Nose up. The bold arrow is the fit-weighted mean; its length is the direction consistency.
The leading spatial mode of this band — the pattern the fourteen channels co-vary in most strongly, as a scalp map. A single broad lobe is a standing pattern; a front–back gradient is a directional phase pattern, which this montage cannot distinguish from lagged spatial structure.
Standing-mode score (one dominant, phase-locked, stable spatial mode) against the plane-fit directional score (phase locking × plane-fit R²) minute by minute, with the stability of the leading mode below.

The standing-mode dashboard from the original analysis: standing-pattern score, leading-mode dominance, 0/π phase locking and non-directional score for every band across the session.

Cross-frequency coupling

Which low-frequency phase organizes gamma amplitude, as a surrogate-tested z-score across the posterior channels. A thalamocortical-dysrhythmia signature would peak at 4–6 Hz; a healthy alpha-gated cortex peaks near the alpha rhythm.

Signal quality

The five-detector screen — device-reported blinks and eye movements (±0.75 s), accelerometer jerk and rocking (±1 s), contact and EEG quality (±0.5 s), robust amplitude excursions and sample-to-sample jumps (±0.25 s) — is described in full in the Methods page. Only clean runs of at least two seconds are used.

Share of the recording removed by each artifact mask.

Non-diagnostic research on consumer EEG. Values describe recorded electrical patterns after artifact screening; they do not establish a mental state, a psychedelic effect, or a clinical finding. See the methods and limits.
